About
L.H.Griffin is a ceramicist living and working in Washington D.C. They grew up in the mouth of the Gerrymander on the North Shore of Massachusetts and spent their early days poking beach flotsam and drawing motifs from colonial gravestones while avoiding homework.
After graduating from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in Ceramics and Art History, Griffin spent 15 years in museums working with the public in exhibits such as Wegmans Wonderplace and on DEAI projects such as the Guide To Trans Inclusion in the Museum Field.
Griffin was invited to participate in the inaugural Artists Retreat at the Edward Gorey House in 2023. After an afternoon among Gorey’s fur coats, books, and sizable knick-nack collection with a group of kindred spirits, they returned from their pilgrimage to Yarmouth finally ready to pursue their art full-time.
In addition to their studio practice, Griffin is the Studio Manager Eastern Market Pottery; a historic studio with a 50+ year history in the heart of Capitol Hill.
They are enthusiastic about sharing their love of pottery with others, and teach weekly classes and workshops at Eastern Market Pottery and at District Clay Center.
They are passionate about functional design and usable objects, having a sense of humor about everyday tragedies, and iced coffee. Inspirations include 17th century English slipware ceramics, American folk-art, and being queer AF.
Griffin’s work can be purchased via the showroom at Eastern Market Pottery, and at various markets and festivals in the DC area. Work is also available via the website.
